This was the last lodging place of Tokaido which lasted about 500 kilometers.

The Sanjo Ohashi bridge was on a gently flowing Kamogawa River.

We could see Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto from the top of the bridge.

The situation here was different from Nihonbashi in Edo.

There were women colled "Ooharame".

They put items on their heads and went to Kyoto for sale.

Geiko and maiko also went to t business through this bridge.

By the way, in the past, famous historical people were executed in this dry riverbed.

There were good things and bad things,

 but this place was an important place in our country.

  We should thank you for that.

歌川広重東海道五十三次　

三条大橋より水彩模写　絵師つねきち

いよいよ500キロにも及ぶ東海道53次での終着点となります。

ゆるやかに流れる鴨川にかかる橋からは清水寺を眺める事もでき、

橋を横行する人々も江戸日本橋とは様相が異なっていました。

頭の上に荷を載せ京に物を売りに行くのは大原女（おおはらめ）、また舞妓さんや芸妓さんの姿も見え、栄える京都の雰囲気が伝わります。

この辺りの河原は江戸以前より処刑場として使われ、歴史上の有名な人々も対象となっていましたが、東海道の重要な役割を担う公儀橋として度々修復が行われています。

現在でもまた老朽化が進んでいるものの、修理には莫大な費用がかかるため寄付金の募集をし続けているそうです。

よいことも、そうではないことも

全てが相まって私たちの国を創り上げました。

そのことに感謝の想いを持ちながら
