上野清水堂不忍ノ池　ーうえのきよみずどうしのばずのいけー

Hiroshige Utagawa One Hundred Famous Views of Edo 

Ueno Kiyomizudo Shinobazu pond 

Tunekichi Replicated in watercolor

Kiyoimizudo is located in the precincts of Ueno-Kanei Temple,

 it was built to resemble the Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto.

歌川広重名所江戸百景より 

 上野清水堂不忍ノ池 うえのきよみずどうしのばずのいけ 

 水彩にて模写　つねきち 

 上野寛永寺の境内にある、清水堂は 京都の清水寺と似せて建てられました。

People were looking at the most early blooming cherry blossoms in Edo.

江戸一番といわれる早咲きの桜が 水色の池之端を背景に咲き誇っています。

Like clouds, and like snow a lot of cherry blossoms were in bloom.

Once upon a time in Tenkai monk much reblogged an instruction to plant a lot of Sakura

 about the same as the Yoshino in Nara. 

Therefore here we can see the annual cherry blossoms.

雲のごとく　雪に似たり 

 当時、天海僧正が 奈良の吉野山と同じように 

 桜見物ができる場所にしようと ふんだんに植えたので 

 ここに桜の花が絶える事はなかったそうです。

Kyomizudo survived many natural disasters and became an important cultural asset.

However, at the great earthquake of Ansei, 

the stone bridge collapsed and all the tea houses were gone by fire.

いくつもの天災をくぐり抜け 

 重要文化財となった清水堂ですが 

 安政地震で池の向こうにあった石橋はくずれ 茶屋も焼失したとのこと。

Unusual shape of the pine was here specialties. 

Craftsmen from the Edo period made this round branch.

Unfortunately it was broken by the typhoon that occurred in the Meiji era. 

Now it is restored and is in the precincts.

不思議な形の枝はここの名物。 

 このぐるぐる松は江戸時代に 職人が満月を形どり造ったと言われます。 

 こちらは明治時代に起きた台風でなくなりましたが 

 復元されたものが敷地内にあるそうです。  

These rows of cherry blossoms gave hope to many people. 

And Hiroshige drew this picture with a thought for reconstruction.

Cherry blossoms are pretty pink and imagine unlimited possibilities.

Tunekichi also got over his hurdle and painted this picture.

華やいだ春の景色に見えますが 

 前出の地震で消失した部分は絵の外側にあり 

 復興前の煌びやかな部分だけ描かれた と言われています。 

 それでもこの桜並木が 人々に多くの力を与えてくれたに違いありません。 

 年に一度ほんの一瞬だけ 生命の全てをかけて花開く 

 魔力とも呼べるパワーを秘めた植物。 

 そこに願いを込め復興への想いを 広重は描いたのだと思います。 

 桜の色は愛されピンク。 

 そして無限の可能性を秘めている色だそうです。 

 災害＝障害 

 そこからの復興を 今まさに障害を乗り越える為 つねきちが描きました。
